| Missions Abroad Placement Service (MAPS) 1 – 11 months Assemblies of God laypersons – young adults or retirees, married or single – may volunteer for an assignment at the request of a full-time missionary. MAPS volunteers may assist a missionary in evangelism, outreaches, literature distribution, youth and children’s ministries, or special projects. | | | Missionary Associate (MA) 1 – 2 years Missionary Associates assist AGWM missionaries and are generally noncredentialed personnel who fill positions such as nurses and medical personnel, secretaries, administrate assistants, computer and design specialists, builders, construction workers, and teachers. | | | MAPS Teams Short term, Group of 2 or more Missions Abroad Placement Service (MAPS) volunteers may assist a missionary in evangelism outreaches, literature distribution, youth and children’s ministries or special projects. A "team" is two or more volunteers working with the same missionary.
| | | Short-Term Minister Abroad (STMA) Up to 6 months An STMA assignment is designed to complement the work of career missionaries. An individual with ministerial credentials may be led to share expertise from years of ministry experience. Ministry abroad must be properly planned with an invitation from a missionary or field fellowship and approval from the area director. Each ministry trip is arranged through AGWM.
| | | Missionary in Training (MIT) 3 year commitment The MIT program was specifically developed to assist young adults who meet the educational requirements but lack ministerial experience to qualify as an Appointed General Missionary. Under the mentorship of a veteran missionary, the MIT develops ministry, acquires cross-cultural experience and gains the practical ministry skills that qualify the MIT for ordination and a life-time of service.
| | | Career Missionary 3 – 4 year terms An “Appointed General” missionary has a proven stateside ministry and believes God’s call is for a life-time of overseas missionary service. This missionary category is involved in general missionary work – evangelism, mentoring, church planting, construction, Bible school ministry and assisting the national church in developing pastors and leaders. Although each missionary has unique gifts, abilities and training, specific qualifications are required.
