The Personnel and Family Life Team
By Owen Wilkie
You think perhaps that God is calling you to get involved in overseas missionary work? How can you find out for sure? Where do you begin? What should be your first step?
You can start by going to www.goag.org.
This Assemblies of God World Missions web site gives you information on different ways you can get involved in world missions; from going on short-term overseas missions trips, to becoming a missionary associate or a career missionary. One good way to see if world missions is where God is calling you may be to go on a short-term, one-time overseas missions trip.
At GoAG.org you can scan the various opportunities available for overseas ministries. For example, there are overseas missions trips with Convoy of Hope and other ministries that last from a few weeks to a few months, or there are teaching assignments for one or two years in various countries. Currently, there are openings to start up a coffee house in Lithuania and to work in an orphanage in Thailand. Youth workers are needed to minister in Singapore. As you can see from reviewing the list, the opportunities are many where people with various areas of ministry skills or secular expertise are needed for different lengths of time. Please click here to search for other ministry opportunities.
As the web site indicates, you can fill out an application online to begin the process. You will find answers to questions you may have, or you can e-mail or call if you have other questions.
The Personnel and Family Life Leadership Team is made up of a committed team of godly individuals who will do all they can to help you with the missionary call that God has placed on your life. Take the first step by contacting them and then see where God takes you from there!
| SAMANTHA’S STORY | |
Samantha Boren recently went on a month-long MAPS trip to the Dominican Republic. After she got back she wrote: “I was called to missions when I was 12 and was called to the Dominican Republic at that time. This trip was to confirm my calling or fulfill it; I didn’t know what was going to happen. Either I would go and find out that this month was all God called me for, or that there was more He wanted me to do. I found out I will be back; I don’t know if that means as a missionary associate (MA), as a missionary in training (MIT) or as a career missionary.” Owen Wilkie is the Web editor in U.S. Relations for the Assemblies of God World Missions. |
