MAPS On Assignment

| Sheila Wilson MAPS Volunteer Burkina-Faso, Africa
My assignment was to teach classes on women’s health issues to the wives of the Bible students. The need for health care is great. Imagine every infection, pain, and problem a woman could ever have and then imagine having to live with that due to lack of funds and/or medical care. My heart breaks for these women. | I had the privilege of speaking in the morning chapel at the Bible school. I spoke on the Greatest Commandment and the story of the Good Samaritan. I had requested prayer before I went to Africa concerning working with a translator and God answered that prayer. Two women took turns translating for me. It was amazing. One of the missionaries asked me if I had worked with a translator before because it went so smoothly. Just one of the many prayers that God answered!
One of the highlights of my trip was meeting the AG General Superintendent for Burkina Faso. We also visited the French AG orphanage and had lunch with the director. | | | On the last day of our trip, the professors of the Bible school and their wives each brought an African dish and we had a time of fellowship. It was wonderful. I cried when they presented us with a gift before leaving - a hand carved giraffe. I have never met more kind, loving, gracious, people. It was very humbling. We hated to leave. Time had gone by too quickly. The missionaries became like family to us. I'm so glad God called me to go to Burkina Faso. I loved every moment of it. Now I'm excited to see where He will lead next. I'm open and available to whatever He wants but I hope He sends me to Africa again. |

Tiffany McAllister MAPS Volunteer Convoy of Hope Intern “Go.” … This one, simple, small word literally changed my life and the plan I thought I should be following. | | While at the World Missions Summit about a year ago, I sat down in Convoy of Hope’s “Window to the World.” This was a time where representatives would explain the work Convoy of Hope was doing around the world and how we could get involved. However, I didn’t get to hear much before the Lord spoke directly to me and said, “Go.” Having never really considered life on the mission field, without hesitation I responded, “Yes Lord, send me!” From that moment on, my life has been set on a new and amazing course. | | I recently spent the most incredible three months as a part of the Convoy of Hope Fall ’09 Internship. We worked on both local and international levels. While in the United States our team was able to be a part of three citywide outreaches in Hagerstown, MD, Picayune, MS, and Rosenberg, TX. | | Convoy of Hope partners with local churches and organizations to provide a glimpse of hope for a hurting community. They do so by providing free opportunities for haircuts, health examinations, help with resumes, family portraits, entertainment, an area for children to play, lunch, bags of groceries, as well as many other free activities. Most importantly, however, the outreach provides a place for people to hear about Jesus, ask for prayer, invite Jesus into their hearts, and be connected to local churches. I was able to pray and talk with numerous guests that were moved because so many people would come together to help them and treat them with honor. While in Texas, my team was also able to help continue efforts to clean up after the destruction Hurricane Ike left over a year ago. | | During the internship we spent about five weeks in the country of Moldova. There we were able to help link the local churches and Christians to their surrounding villages through school assemblies, children’s outreaches, passing out groceries at community centers, door to door visits, painting, cleaning, and numerous youth services. | During the school assemblies, I was able to use my background in nutrition to teach about making wise food choices. I never thought I would have an opportunity like this! We shared our hearts with the local people, but they in turn shared so much with us.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" Isaiah 6:8 | | |

Isaiah 6:8 “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” | | I have had a heart to serve in Eurasia for the longest time and the Lord completely blessed me with the opportunity this past summer. The three month opportunity is the best thing that has happened in my life! To be able to serve our Lord Jesus Christ and touch lives is such a blessing and nothing can compare to that. While on my MAPS trip, I had numerous opportunities to serve the people of the country and see the lives of people touched! Prayer is one of the most powerful things that anyone can do. I had the opportunity to walk around different cities and towns to pray for a move of God. I have always had the desire to work with an orphanage and I was given the opportunity. A team of students came through and I was able to partner with them to throw a carnival (something that had never been done before) for all the kids. The carnival was such a blessing, not only to the children, but to the staff as well. To see the kids run around playing the different carnival games, laughing, and having fun! Wow…what a sight to see! What a blessing! We were able to share the love of Christ with the orphans. | | Also, I had the great opportunity to meet a beautiful family and aid in fixing up their home. For two days, we sand-papered all the walls of the house, and painted everything inside and out. After the first day was over, we were all covered in the dust from the walls of the house to the point where my hair was yellow on the top! The second day is when we worked hard and were able to get a solid coat of paint on all the walls. The family was a blessing to us and we were able to share in a traditional meal with them. | | In July, a container from Convoy of Hope arrived and I was able to help unload and distribute all the contents to orphanages and a family in the area. From clothes, to shoes, to practical supplies - the people of this country were blessed! I also had the opportunity to deliver the supplies to an orphanage. I cannot explain the looks on the children’s faces. All I can do is praise Jesus for the blessing they received. Once we were done distributing all the things to the kids, they decided to bless us with a song. It was so beautiful! God can move even in the simplest of things. |
